Kenzo Spring Summer 2015

Women Ready To Wear

(Kenzo 2014)

An icy chill emerged as the debut model strolled modestly into the steel and concrete based skate park that was the runway location for Kenzo’s Spring Summer 2015 women’s ready to wear collection.

Proportions were oversized and had an aerodynamic influence, with wide lines that were pristine and sharp.  The colour palette remained in the icy whites and blues tenderly resting upon deep navy and black. There were moments when snowboarding edged itself into my mind as the prominent influence.

This was an evolving show, the beginning showcasing  sleek capsule like garments, cylindrical and promoting the natural curves of a women, transitioning into a rather box like shape. Incorporating blazers, tapered pants, and flounces upon semi-formal shirts.

The moving images that were visible on the large screens evolved simultaneously with the garments, beginning with organic waves crashing and transitioning to hard edged mechanics, both images articulated the soft hard oxymoron that skated around each garment.

The mechanics, linked with, on closer inspection of numerous garments, an almost puzzle like influence along collar.s and intricately placed along shirts and pants. These puzzle like addictions to the garments, reinforced the idea of putting pieces together to make a working machine, in reference to the mechanics imagery and the refernce of working together as a team linking to sport as a catalyst.

Each garment was a thrill to eye, holding my gaze until no longer in my view. Caressing the curved, straight and hard edged silhouettes was breath taking.

Soft pinks began to emerge towards the end of the show, omitting a flagrant essence of pure femininity, not just with the colour but with the soft flowing fits that began to beam along the runway.

From the thirty fifth look, the deep black pigment made their way through, leading the last few garments. In summation, the garments took charge propelling the audience into an icy four minutes fuelled with innovating silhouettes, sharp tailoring and transitioning clothing that mercurially attacked the senses and didn’t let go.
